An Area With Significance

Nestled along the mighty Mississippi River, Quincy, Illinois, boasts a rich history dating back to its founding in 1825. From its days as a frontier town to its role in the Underground Railroad and beyond, Quincy has been at the crossroads of American history.

From early settlements to the present day, explore the events and people that shaped our community.

John Wood Mansion

Address: 425 South 12th St

Step into the 1830s at the Greek Revival home of Quincy's founder and Illinois' 12th Governor, John Wood. This beautifully preserved mansion offers a rare glimpse into frontier life and the early days of Quincy. Experience the elegance and craftsmanship of 19th-century architecture while learning about the life and times of one of our city's most influential figures.

Walk in Lincoln’s Footsteps

Discover the deep connections between Quincy and one of America's greatest presidents. Our Lincoln Gallery is a permanent exhibit featuring artifacts and stories from Lincoln’s life. The debates that changed Lincoln’s trajectory, the Quincy friends who supported him, the effects of his monumental presidency – the Lincoln Gallery offers a unique perspective on the 16th president’s life and legacy.

From items owned by the former president and his friends to artifacts from his assassination, each piece helps tell the story of Lincoln's enduring impact.

Enhance Your Experience

Deepen your historical journey with guided tours available at both museums (reservations recommended for groups). Each of our experienced tour guides offers a fresh perspective on the events and people who have called Quincy home.
