Students learn about the Society’s 1835 Log Cabin in the Pioneer education program.
YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS:
  • Mill trim pieces for Mansion.
  • Paint the south side of the Mansion exterior.
  • Patch, paint & touch up walls, ceilings and trim in History Museum.
  • Refurbish Visitors Center parking lot surface.
  • Renovate archival storage and exhibit preparation area in History Museum.
  • Replace damaged windows in History Museum.
  • Replace damaged wood on south side and on north porch of Mansion

Become a member of one of the
oldest historical societies in the
Midwest and make a real difference. We are preserving the historic Governor John Wood Mansion, the History Museum on the Square, the 1835 Log Cabin, the Lincoln Gallery displays, and the extensive collection of artifacts and documents that tells the story of how we became who we
are. Interpretive exhibits in the History Museum on the Square and the Lincoln Gallery, programs and events open to the public, student programs, historical research, a weekly column in the Herald-Whig, and collaborative efforts with other organizations all serve our members and our community. All memberships include immediate family members. All members receive:
  • Free Admission to the John Wood Mansion, the 1835 Log Cabin, the Lincoln Gallery, and the History Museum on the Square.
  • Free Subscription to the Governor’s Post.
  • 10% Discount on merchandise at Quincy’s History Shop and discounts at several restaurants in Quincy.

Christmas Candlelight Tours 
Hundreds of visitors tour the Mansion each year at Christmastime, viewing the Greek Revival home in its holiday finery while listening to music of the season.
Civil War Symposium IV Spring 2023
The Symposium, co sponsored with Tri-States Civil War Round Table, offers presentations by top scholars and historians on various aspects of the Civil War. 
Programs/Educational Presentations
In keeping with its mission, the Society offers monthly programs for area history enthusiasts as well as educational presentations for area youth, grade school through high school.
Historical Markers Program 
Coordinating with the Tri-States Civil War Round Table and Harrison Monuments, the Society has been instrumental in researching, erecting and replacing historical markers for significant people in local, state and national history.
Woodland Cemetery Tours
One of our most popular activities, area residents line up year after year to hear and see actors portray some of Quincy’s most notable — and sometimes notorious—citizens at their gravesites in Woodland Cemetery.
